We wish we had a whole month to devote to the World Cup! The world wide event is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about different countries and their flags (not to mention some "football" vocabulary as well)! 2014 is especially exciting because the 2 most popular countries of readers of this website (Iran and America) are in the World Cup! All of our students reside in the United States so they will be of course be cheering for the USA but the students are also thrilled to have Iran to cheer on as well.
Since it is overwhelming to learn all the countries and their flags at once, we decided to focus on the groups that will be playing Iran and the US. This activity can be used as a simple World Cup coloring sheet to learn the flags of the countries. However beginning Persian/Farsi readers will be able to read and write the names of the countries. Finally, the students can keep track of the "mosobeghaat" (competition) by writing down the winners. Parents will hopefully find the calendar with the dates of the games helpful!
